Ben Jeffers is a business lawyer focused on litigation and dispute resolution in the automotive, consumer products, manufacturing, healthcare, and insurance sectors. Since 1997, he has helped companies and institutions resolve complex disputes in courts and arbitration throughout the country. Ben is very active and visible in the Southeast Michigan legal community. He served for a decade on the board of the Detroit Bar Association and as its President in 2012-2013. A founding member of HHBJ, Mr. Jeffers spent the first 19 years of his career at a national law firm headquartered in Detroit where he specialized in high-stakes, complex litigation.
Mr. Jeffers’ practice focuses primarily on commercial matters, with a particular emphasis on contract, business tort, unfair trade practice claims, and class actions in multiple industries. He also has significant experience with insurance and ERISA claim matters. Whether he is working for an individual entrepreneur or for a fortune 500 company in nationwide litigation such as In re Automotive Parts Antitrust Litigation or In re Takata Airbag Litigation, Mr. Jeffers recognizes that every dispute must be evaluated as a business issue, and that every litigation strategy must advance an underlying business objective.
Examples of Mr. Jeffers’ practice areas include the following:
- Breach of contract and business tort claims, including fraud, tortious interference, and unfair competition;
- Automotive (OEM, Tier 1 and Tier 2) pricing, supply chain, cost recovery, and recall disputes;
- Warranty and product defect claims;
- Class actions concerning automobiles, consumer products, antitrust allegations, and environmental contamination;
- Insurance and ERISA claims;
- Insurance company insolvencies, guaranty fund issues and other insurance coverage and indemnity disputes; and
- Hospital medical staff disputes and internal peer review proceedings, as well as business “divorce” cases involving physician groups and hospitals.
Mr. Jeffers is an alum of the Detroit Chamber of Commerce “Leadership Detroit” program, a community leadership program for executives in Southeast Michigan with more than 1,800 alumni. Launched in 1979, the program seeks to educate local leaders on important issues that affect the Detroit region. He also serves as a Director on the Detroit Bar Association and was its President in 2012-2013. He likewise served through 2015 as a Director on the DBA Foundation. During his time with the DBA, Mr. Jeffers chaired the DBA’s Judicial Evaluation Committee for many years, was a founding member and organizer of the DBA Inns of Court program, and has been active in planning Bench/Bar events in the Detroit legal community.
